Background Information to today’s lesson: To rule in the promised land, the Israelites needed to first defeat the Philistines who lived on the coast. After Joshua died, God raised up other strong leaders to help them, but the people were unhappy. They wanted to have a king like the nations around them. God gave them a king, but sadly, their first king, Saul, lost God's blessing because he disobeyed God’s command.
After Saul's disobedience, God commands his Samuel to find a new king.
Samuel: Young man! What is your name?
David: David, sir. My name is David.
Samuel: I you, David of Bethlehem, to be the next king of Israel once Saul is dead.
Jonathan: Father what's wrong? Tell me what's wrong!
Saul: Nothing is wrong.
Jonathan: It was a great .
Saul: I need rest; that is all. Sleep. Sleep... Lord, your servant!
Narrator: In time, David becomes an in Saul's court. A king in waiting.
The Philistine continues to grow, and now they have a new champion: Goliath.
Goliath: Will one of you fight me? Israelites!
